Carbajal Announces Federal Grants to Assist Victims of Domestic Violence

Federal funds will support transitional housing programs and fund legal assistance for victims of domestic violence in San Luis Obispo

San Luis Obispo – Today, Rep. Salud Carbajal (CA-24) will announce $1,065,243 in federal resources to support programs provided by Stand Strong, formerly the Women’s Shelter of San Luis Obispo, which assists domestic violence survivors with housing needs and legal services.

The Department of Justice, Office of Violence Against Women has awarded Stand Strong $465,243 toward the transitional housing program, which curbs homelessness among individuals fleeing from intimate partner violence by providing safe housing for victims and their children as well as assistance obtaining permanent housing. Stand Strong has also received $600,000 to provide legal services to survivors who are pursuing legal action.

“Too often, survivors of domestic violence unfortunately lack the means to seek safe housing on their own or lack the resources to take legal action against their abusers,” said Rep. Carbajal. “I am thankful for Stand Strong’s commitment to supporting victims of domestic violence and will continue fighting for federal resources that allow them to continue the important work they do on the Central Coast.”

Congressman Carbajal will make the announcement at a reception organized by Stand Strong in observance of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The event will begin at 6:00pm PST. A live stream will be available here.
