Washington, DC – This week, Rep. Carbajal (CA-24) joined forty-eight members of the evenly divided, bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus calling on Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, to allow an open debate on a bill to protect Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients and to bring legislation to the floor for a vote. “As time runs out for the nearly 700,000 dreamers protected by DACA, Congress must act to find a solution for these hardworking young people,” said Carbajal. “Many of my Republican colleagues have expressed a strong desire to find a compromise to get the DACA and border security issue resolved. It is time for Speaker Ryan to take this issue seriously and give us an opportunity to debate and vote on legislation.” The bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus wrote to Speaker Paul Ryan to request a “Queen of the Hill” rule to govern House debate on competing DACA and border security proposals to establish the official position of the U.S. House of Representatives. Carbajal has signed onto multiple bipartisan bills which have already been introduced with significant support in the House, including the Dream Act (S.1615) and the Uniting and Securing America Act (H.R.4796). In September, the Trump Administration announced the rescission of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program with a six-month delay. The program is set to expire on March 5th.
