Carbajal Statement on Trump Administration Clean Power Plan Repeal

Santa Barbara, CA – Today, Rep. Salud Carbajal (CA-24) issued the following statement in response to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt’s Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) to repeal the Obama-era Clean Power Plan:

“As wildfires and hurricanes wreak havoc across our nation, it is clear that our nation is already experiencing the effects of climate change. Over 134 million people in the United States live in pollution levels that are dangerous to breathe. We are out of time to debate this reality. Today’s announcement that the Trump Administration plans to reverse the Clean Power Plan is direct assault on public health and hurts our critical efforts to combat climate change.

Industries are moving toward cleaner power sources, with clean power sectors creating jobs at a 12% faster rate than the United States’ economic growth overall. Our government should be actively incentivizing these business trends, that benefit both our public health and our environment, not burying their heads in the sand by continuing to embrace an unsustainable reliance on fossil fuels.

The White House will accept public comments on the proposed repeal in the coming days. I join with many of my constituents on the Central Coast to raise my voice against this irresponsible repeal.”
