Carbajal to Announce Water Infrastructure Legisation with Local Water Districts

Santa Barbara, CA – On Monday, April 23rd, Rep. Carbajal (CA-24) will announce the introduction of the bipartisan Water Infrastructure Resiliency and Sustainability (WIRSA) Act. The bill establishes an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) grant program for communities to improve the resiliency and adaptability of their water-related infrastructure.

Competitive grants will spur projects which conserve water or increase efficiency in its use, preserve or improve water quality, rebuild or relocate threatened infrastructure, protect source waters and ecosystems, and implement advanced treatment technologies such as water reuse and recycling.

“Natural disasters, like the one we experienced during the Montecito Debris Flow, show us the importance of building resilient infrastructure as we grapple with the effects of climate change and an ongoing drought crisis,” said Rep. Carbajal. “This legislation will provide critical support to local agencies and governments choosing to be proactive and undertaking projects that strengthen their water infrastructure’s adaptability as the impacts of climate change continue to become more severe.”

Congressman Carbajal will host a Water Infrastructure Roundtable to announce the introduction of the bill.
