As your Congressman, I am committed to fighting for equal treatment of all Americans, regardless of color, race, religion, age, disability, or gender. Freedom from persecution and a fair shot at success for all are ideals fundamental to our democratic nation. From the suffrage movement to the Civil Rights Era; from the fight for marriage equality to the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act; Americans have a long and proud history of continuously pushing for the fullest realization of those ideals.

Unfortunately, recent Supreme Court decisions have weakened voting rights, workplace protections, and equality for LGBTQ individuals, for minorities, for women and for those serving in our military.

This is why I support bills that will protect our voting rights such as the For The People Act, which protects voting rights and bans partisan gerrymandering; and the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, which penalizes voter suppression tactics.

I am also a proud member of the Congressional Voting Rights Caucus.

In addition, I continue to fight for rights for our LGBTQ+ communities.

I’m a proud cosponsor of the Equality Act, which prohibits sex and gender-based discrimination in public places; the Respect for Marriage Act, which requires states to recognize interracial and same-sex marriages; and the GLOBE Act, to protect LGBTQ rights worldwide

We must remain vigilant in the pursuit of equal participation in democracy, civil society, and the workplace.

We owe it to future generations to strive for a society wherein each and every person, in the United States and abroad, is afforded the full respect and dignity they deserve.
