Carbajal to Serve on House Transportation and Agriculture Committees

Today, Congressman Carbajal (CA-24) announced his appointment to the influential House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, one of the largest committees in Congress, as well as to the House Agriculture Committee. Carbajal will also continue to serve on the House Armed Services Committee.

“It’s an honor to serve on the Transportation and Agriculture Committees to address the many issues affecting Central Coast families each day,” said Rep. Carbajal. “Agriculture is an economic driver in our region grossing over $2 trillion a year, and this new post allows me to have a louder voice in fighting for the needs of our farmers and ranchers, as well as maintain robust support for our nutrition assistance programs that 16,000 families on the Central Coast rely on to put food on the table.

“This is an opportunity to advocate for strategic infrastructure projects that combat our historic drought and provide for water security, to ensure pipeline safety, and make robust investments to shore up our crumbling roads and bridges. It’s time for the President and Leader McConnell to stop harming the 800,000 federal workers going without pay as well, as the vulnerable American public, and end this shutdown immediately so we can get back to work on behalf of the American people.”

Speaker Nancy Pelosi said: “It is a privilege to welcome Congressman Carbajal to both the Agriculture and Transportation and Infrastructure Committees, where he will be a strong voice in Democrats’ mission to deliver For The People. As a tireless champion for the people of Southern California and a deeply respected colleague in the Congress, his leadership will be instrumental in guiding our work to build a safer, more secure and more sustainable future for our children and grandchildren.  His energy, expertise and relentless commitment to the American people will help Democrats restore ethics, integrity and transparency to the Congress, ensuring that Washington works for the public interest, not the special interests.”

The Agriculture Committee Chairman Collin Peterson of Minnesota said: “Salud represents some of the most productive fruit and vegetable land in the world and nearly 3,000 square miles of National Forest, not to mention almost 750,000 consumers. His perspective on specialty crop agriculture will be appreciated on the Ag Committee as we tackle issues important to the 24th District and all of America in the 116th Congress.”

Transportation Committee Chairman Peter DeFazio said: “The Transportation and Infrastructure Committee has a long history of working in a bipartisan way to get things done for the American people,” said Chairman DeFazio. “Rep. Carbajal is dedicated, innovative, and ready to roll up his sleeves and get to work for the American people. I am pleased that he has joined our Committee, and look forward to working with him.”

The Agriculture Committee has jurisdiction over issues related to horticulture and research, conservation and forestry issues to renewable energy, supplemental nutrition assistance programs, food transparency and security, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The Transportation Committee has broad jurisdiction over all modes of transportation, water resources management, the oil and gas pipeline transport, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Coast Guard and hazardous materials transportation.

Since the 116th Congress was sworn in, Carbajal has also voted to open the government and fund key agencies nine times:
