Rep. Carbajal on the House Passing the Republican Budget That Slashes Funding for Medicaid and SNAP
Washington,
February 25, 2025
Today, Congressman Salud Carbajal (CA-24) voted against the harmful Republican tax plan that would gut funding for Medicare, the Affordable Care Act, and SNAP–one of the nation’s largest anti-hunger programs. All this to bankroll tax cuts for billionaires at the expense of working families on the Central Coast. In CA-24, 236,208 people who rely on Medicaid are at risk of losing their health care under the Republican plan. This includes 98,975 children under the age of 19 and 24,000 seniors over 65. Additionally, the 42,000 people who receive coverage under the Affordable Care Act would see their average premium go up by $2,420 per year — which amounts to a 107% increase. Carbajal released the following statement on his vote: “Tonight, I voted against the House Republican budget, which betrays the American people and slashes funding for essential programs like SNAP and Medicaid. This budget is all about giving massive tax cuts to billionaires and big corporations while gutting the vital services that everyday Americans, seniors, and Veterans rely on. “The Central Coast deserves better — with gas, groceries, and housing prices skyrocketing, this budget will only make things worse. That's why I stood firmly with my House Democratic colleagues and voted no.” |
