The members of New Democrat Coalition last night re-elected Congressman Salud Carbajal (CA-24) to his second term as Vice Chair for Outreach. Following the 2024 election, the Coalition is adding more than 20 new members to reach its largest roster to date. At a press conference earlier today, Vice Chair Carbajal emphasized the importance of New Dem’s commitment to breaking through gridlock to deliver results for Americans as a playbook for the House Democratic Caucus in the upcoming 119th Congress. “New Dems have and will always believe the best way to create lasting policy to improve Americans’ lives is to work together on pragmatic, bipartisan policies. And the results of this election are clear: the New Dem playbook and agenda are the direction we need to go as a Democratic Party,” said Rep. Carbajal. “I was the freshman New Dem standing here 8 years ago. I remember 2017 and 2018 well. New Dems used those years in the wilderness to develop ideas and present an alternative vision for governing. While we will work with anyone to find common ground on legislation in the 119th Congress, from taxes to trade, infrastructure to international relations, we will always stand up for our Democratic values. And with our new leadership team at the helm of a Coalition that makes up more than half of the House Democratic Caucus, New Dems are poised to play a significant role in countering extremism and delivering for the American people over the next two years.” In the 118th Congress, Vice Chair Carbajal helped organize roundtables with stakeholders to develop policy proposals across a wide range of issue areas, including housing, child care, and workforce development. He also served as a Vice Chair of the New Dem Immigration and Border Security Task Force, which developed a slate of border security and immigration reform recommendations in tandem with White House and Senate negotiations over a bipartisan immigration deal. ### |
