Carbajal Statement on Meeting with Vice President Regarding Thomas Fire
Washington, DC,
December 12, 2017
Washington, DC – Today, Rep. Carbajal (CA-24) and California Representatives from districts with ongoing wildfires, met with Vice President Mike Pence and FEMA officials at the White House. Federal assistance for the Thomas Fire, which has burned over 234,200 acres in Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties, was the focus of the conversation. Once a full impact assessment of the Thomas Fire is calculated, the Vice President indicated that the Administration would support a supplemental disaster relief funding measure. Carbajal release the following statement on the meeting: “Today’s conversation with the Vice President was productive. I heard firsthand from the Administration that they are supportive of ongoing efforts to combat the Thomas Fire, which was reflected in last week’s swift authorization of Governor Brown’s request for emergency federal assistance. The Vice President also indicated approval of a forthcoming relief funding package from Congress, to help residents and communities recover. I will continue to raise these issues with the Administration in order to fully fund response and recovery efforts on the Central Coast. I want to again thank our heroic firefighters that are working tirelessly on the front lines, in difficult conditions, to protect our communities.”
