Congressman Salud Carbajal (CA-24) issued a statement following the conviction of former President of the United States Donald Trump on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records: “Today is reminder and proof that in the United States of America, no one is above the law. “Over the past few weeks, our nation’s independent judiciary – a bedrock of our democracy – has been under immense strain. But in the face of nonstop attempts at outside interference and undue meddling, the court’s officers and a jury of everyday Americans have still applied the laws of our nation without prejudice and in the spirit of equal justice under law.” “There will undoubtedly be some who will immediately seek to undermine the credibility of this unanimous verdict on 34 felony counts. I urge them to consider the long-term implications of putting partisan loyalty and politics ahead of our nation’s constitutional principles and the people who are protected by those values every single day. We cannot claim to be a nation of laws only when the outcomes serve our ends.” |
