Rep. Carbajal Statement on the Death of Senator Dianne Feinstein

Today, Congressman Salud Carbajal (CA-24) issued the following statement on the passing of Dianne Feinstein, senior U.S. Senator for California, former mayor of San Francisco and President of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, and author of the 1994 Federal Assault Weapons ban.

“Today we lost a titan of California politics.

“From her time in local government to the halls of the United States Senate, Dianne Feinstein was our state’s foremost expert at shattering glass ceilings and an indefatigable champion for Californians and the Golden State.

Dianne Feinstein was nothing less than a trailblazer in our nation: authoring our last assault weapons ban, spearheading investigations into the use of torture and detainment, and being ahead of her time when advocating for the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals.

“I had the pleasure of working with Senator Feinstein on a wide range of issues, including updating our maritime safety and liability laws after the Conception boat fire, championing the Chumash Heritage National Marine Sanctuary, and working together to curb gun violence through the expansion of “red flag” laws included in last year’s Bipartisan Safer Communities Act.

“I join all Californians and Senator Feinstein’s family today in mourning her passing and the end of her long career in public service.”
