Congressman Salud Carbajal (CA-24) spoke at Pioneer Park with Lompoc Mayor Jenelle Osborne to highlight delivering $1,267,5000 in federal funding to support renovations at the park, including the construction of a new playground and baseball fields.
“Parks and green spaces are essential to the quality of life in every community, and I’m proud to be able to fight for this funding for Central Coast families,” said Rep. Carbajal. “These funds are contributing to critical improvements happening all across Lompoc and across the Central Coast, and I’m excited for local residents to enjoy the results of this work in the coming months and years.” “I want to thank Congressman Carbajal for investing in Lompoc with this funding for Pioneer Park,” said Lompoc Mayor Jenelle Osborne. “His support will make it possible for the City of Lompoc to move forward on a park long overdue for improvements. This park is located near a large number of apartment complexes, so it is the outdoor space used for a variety of purposes, from weekend barbecues to baseball games and birthday parties. Partnerships such as this with our federal officials make a real difference locally.” Federal funding is projected to cover half of the cost of planned renovations at the park, with the federal funds secured by Carbajal in the 2023 funding bills being supplemented by Community Development Block Grants to the City of Lompoc from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The City will provide the remainder of funding for the $4 million project, which includes a full renovation of the baseball fields and exercise area, as well as a replacement of the public restrooms already completed by the City. After advocating for this and other community projects over the majority of 2022, Rep. Carbajal successfully secured more than $22 million for 14 projects in the congressional spending package that was signed into law in December. Projects across Santa Barbara County include expanding U.S. Highway 101 carpool lanes, supporting local food security and clean water operations, and upgrading parks and public spaces in Santa Barbara, Lompoc, and Santa Maria. The Congressman also recently touted more than $11 million in federal funding for projects across the City of Lompoc from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) as part of a milestone of $500,000,000 in investments for nearly 100 projects up and down the Central Coast. |
