Congressman Salud Carbajal joined members of the Santa Barbara County Association of Governments and other state and local officials to highlight more than $70 million in federal funding that his work in Congress helped deliver for improvements to the U.S. Highway 101 in Santa Barbara County, boosting the more than 17-year effort to improve safety and reduce congestion.
Today, Congressman Salud Carbajal joined members of the Santa Barbara County Association of Governments and other state and local officials to highlight more than $70 million in federal funding that his work in Congress helped deliver for improvements to the U.S. Highway 101 in Santa Barbara County, boosting the more than 17-year effort to improve safety and reduce congestion. “The 101 is truly the backbone of our community. It is what gets our working families to their jobs, it moves the Central Coast’s products out into the world, it takes us to our gorgeous beaches and incredible public lands,” said Rep. Carbajal. “In Washington, I have worked to secure funding for this project in any way that I can. I was successful in securing $7 million in direct funding from the 2023 federal budget…and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law supplied $67 million. We’re basking in the glow of a ‘summer of infrastructure’ that is happening across our region. ” Funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which was championed in Congress by Rep. Carbajal through his role on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, delivered $67 million for the project, more than half of the $132.4 million award announced earlier this month by the California Transportation Commission (CTC). Congressman Carbajal was joined by State Senator Monique Limón, State Assembly member Gregg Hart, CTC Commissioner Hilary Norton, Lompoc Mayor and Santa Barbara County Association of Governments (SBCAG) Board of Directors Chair Jenelle Osborne, Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors Chair Das Williams, Santa Barbara Mayor Randy Rowse, Federal Highway Administration California Division Administrator Vince Mammano California District 5 Director Scott Eades, SBCAG Executive Director Marjie Kirn, Montecito Fire Protection District Chief David Neels, and Santa Barbara MTD General Manager Jerry Estrada. Carbajal recently noted a milestone $500 million in federal funding has already been delivered by the landmark law for nearly 100 projects up and down the Central Coast to support upgrades to transportation and transit systems, climate resilient initiatives, and high-speed broadband connectivity. |
