Friends,

As I'm sure many of you are already aware, the first few weeks of the new Trump Administration have brought multiple attempts to put unelected and unvetted billionaires ahead of the Central Coast; from granting access to sensitive information, to obstructing funding already approved by Congress for vital programs and projects for our region.

I fought back last week against a broad order by President Trump to hold up billions in federal grants, and while that wide-reaching memo was retracted (in part due to the massive public pressure you helped put on Washington) there are still other executive actions that are endangering funding for the Central Coast.

Some more on these ongoing fights, plus some good news (I promise) as you read on:

DEMANDING TRUMP ADMINISTRATION REVEAL LIST OF FROZEN CENTRAL COAST PROJECTS

On Donald Trump's first day in office, he issued an executive order that claimed to freeze all funding derived from the Inflation Reduction Act and Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, two key laws that I helped write which have delivered more than a billion dollars to our region so far.

Do you know of a project affected by this freeze? Let me know here.

To be clear: Congress approved these funds. The President does not have the power to withold them. Doing so is a violation of federal law, and it was the basis of why President Trump was impeached in 2019.

I'm pushing back on this ongoing freeze, urging the Trump Administration to directly address what projects they're blocking and working to enforce existing impoundment law. Learn more here.

President Musk

Earlier this week, the Treasury Department officially confirmed that unelected billionaires and unvetted political appointees were given access to sensitive data on government servers, including the personal information of millions of American seniors.

This is unacceptable.

I'm joining my colleagues in demanding a full accounting from the Treasury Department on how and why this access was granted, and I am working with Congressional Democrats to push legislation specifically blocking DOGE from accessing this and other sensitive governement programs and data.

I've heard it from you and others across the Central Coast: people want lower grocery prices and a better quality of life. They don't want unelected billionaires invading their privacy.

Should unelected billionaires and unvetted right wing activists have access to sensitive Treasury data, including Social Security and Medicare payment systems?

Now, Some good news: Congress can still Pass Bills!

As Southern California communities continue to grapple with the impact of devastating wildfires across the Southland, I am proud to share that my bill that will reduce the risk of future wildfires was one of the first bills passed in the House this term.

The Fire Safe Electrical Corridors Act will reduce red tape for removing hazardous vegetation near power lines, allowing for a more streamlined process when tackling wildfire risk. It will also
allow for the removal of hazardous trees near power lines – including national forests like Los Padres National Forest – with fewer bureaucractic steps, easing a serious threat that has in the past been a major cause of destructive wildfires in the past.

investments from landmark infrastructure bill coming to goleta

I recently visited Goleta to highlight a new $11 million investment in walkable infrastructure, made possible by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

This project will help Goleta complete a new pedestrian underpass that will improve connectivity for residents, linking Old Town Goleta to expanded opportunities in education, employment, and housing – helping to create a more accessible and vibrant community.

Learn more here about this new investment!
