As the news around the war in Iran continues to change on a daily basis, I want to share my thoughts on this conflict.

Over a month ago, the President began launching unauthorized strikes on Iran, pushing our country into a dangerous global conflict without approval from Congress. The President has failed to provide transparency for the American people as to why we are being dragged into another war. As a result of this war, 13 American service members have been killed and over 290 others seriously injured. My heart goes out to these service members and their families.

The war has impacts here at home as well. This conflict is costing U.S. taxpayers $1 billion every day, and costs of everyday essentials — like gas —are skyrocketing. Families who are already being affected by the cost-of-living crisis due to tariff price increases, cuts to healthcare, and cuts to SNAP benefits shouldn’t have to shoulder these extra costs too.

Last week, Trump made dangerous comments where he threatened "a whole civilization will die tonight." While I’m relieved the worst-case scenario didn’t happen, it’s clear that this president is unstable. I support the calls to invoke the 25th amendment before Trump escalates this war even further.

PASSPORT FAIR

Last week, my office hosted a Passport Fair in Santa Barbara. I am pleased to say that over 300 passport applications were processed at this event!

I am grateful for the partnership of the Los Angeles Passport Agency in their help getting our neighbors travel-ready.

RISING DIESEL COSTS ON THE CENTRAL COAST

For over 100 years, the Santa Maria Valley Railroad has powered our regional economy. But during my recent visit with the railroad's president, Rob Himoto, the message was clear: skyrocketing diesel costs are hitting local businesses hard.

This railroad is a lifeline for our local economy, carrying everything from lumber to the food on our tables. When critical transportation links face rising costs, these expenses are passed directly to the consumer.

I’m fighting to rein in Trump's war powers and deliver relief from his chaos. We need a steady economy, not more instability that threatens our livelihoods.
