Rep. Carbajal, New Dem Coalition Unveil Jobs Action Plan to Address the Labor Shortage, Reward Hard Work, and Strengthen the Economy

Today, New Democrat Coalition Vice Chair Salud Carbajal (CA-24) joined his Coalition colleagues in unveiling the New Dems’ Jobs Action Plan.

The Action Plan examines current barriers to labor growth in America and lays out a roadmap to strengthen our national workforce and our economy.

“The Central Coast deserves a workforce system that works for them, a system that affords everyone the opportunity to fulfill their financial and professional dreams,” said Rep. Carbajal. “As Vice Chair for Outreach, I’ve helped convene key meetings with New Dems and stakeholders to understand the dynamics affecting our labor markets and identify barriers to employment and advancement that are limiting the potential of American workers. Congress must take action to break down these barriers, and our commonsense recommendations are capable of earning the bipartisan support needed to pass into law.”

Through a series of recommendations for both Congress and the Administration, the Jobs Action Plan aims to break through the five major barriers that are contributing to our ongoing workforce shortage

  1. It’s too hard for non-college workers to get the skills they need;
  2. Barriers to work are limiting labor growth;
  3. There are too many hurdles to employment;
  4. Too many women and people of color are stuck in low-paying jobs; and
  5. Many workers can’t find opportunities where they live.
